Uncle Tim's Second Inversion TriadsUncle Tim's Second Inversion Diatonic Triads For Guitar

C major scaleSpice up your chord selection with Uncle Tim's Second Inversion Diatonic Triads eBooks.

The standard triads completely map out the fretboard for all keys. They are an excellent way to add chords to songs and examine areas of the fretboard you would like to move into and play the correct chords in. In this way a guitarist can easily find just the right chord at exactly the right area of the fretboard. This is a tremendous creative tool to help design chord progressions and bring songs in the direction you want.

The first thing this eBook does is separate the Diatonic Signature, shown to the right into four - three string sets of notes (shown below). This way we can build the triad cascades for the key of C major and A minor. By building triads for the four - three string sets, we are building first inversion triads for the entire fretboard and for the entire key. So you cover the entire fretboard for the key of C major. Look at the next example and you can see how it maps out the fretboard. These chords will all be contained in the 12 fret signature shown on the right.

In this illustration you can see the triads cascading down the four - three string sets.

Second inversion Triads - Key of C Major

The chords always flow down and across the fretboard alphabetically

Notice that these triads are all in the key of C major and A minor. Also notice that they flow in alphabetical order, starting on whatever the first chord in the cascade is. Each cascade is different too. This gives you lots of choices as to which exact chord voicing you use. And since these cascades are based on the C major scale, you can easily see how the scale not only creates these chords, but also how you can play the scale against these chords and construct secondary chord and lead guitar parts. This is an excellent way to mix in chords with your lead playing.

First inversion triads are always constructed by using the third degree first, then the fifth degree and then the root note. That is what makes them first inversion triads. Constructing chords by stacking the different degrees is fully covered in this eBook.

The Chords are carved out of the scale of C major

As you look over the cascades, you can now begin to see that the scale is responsible for creating these cascades. They only contain the notes of the C major scale and every note in the scale can spawn a chord. In fact at least three triads (one for each inversion).

These triads are the building blocks for more elaborate chords

G Major Chord in C ScaleG major chord spread out in different triads

Notice the G major barre chord on the left hand side. This chord actually has several different triads inside of it. It can also be separated into smaller chords and used in conjunction with triads to create a fuller sound with more diversity. If you are looking for choices for movement as you create a progression of chords, triads offer all of the choices to move to another chord.

And every triad can be added to with adjoining notes to create accent chords and spice progressions up with added notes. With these diagrams you can easily see all the different possibilities so you can pick just the right chord.

All of Uncle Tim's eBooks are constructed using the Circle of Fifths

The Circle of Fifths

When you use any of Uncle Tim's eBooks you will always progress through each key by way of the Circle of Fifths. This is how music is created using a key based approach and these chords are created by applying the rules of theory to the key of C major using Uncle Tim's unique visual method.

The Circle of Fifths starts out with the key of C major and proceeds by building each scale. We progress through the same sequence when creating cascades based on the scale. This is a very good way to tie this information into other information about each key that you already know. So you can expand your knowledge and begin to tie everything together.

And these triad cascades offer excellent practice for finger gymnastics. They go nicely with scale practice too.
